Lowndes grabs Queensland pole

Craig Lowndes bounced back from morning practice engine problems to beat his Triple Eight Holden team-mate Jamie Whincup to pole position for the first V8 Supercars race at Queensland Raceway.

Lowndes’ 1m09.2218s pipped championship leader Whincup by 0.1577 seconds at the end of the session.

The Ford Performance Racing cars battled for third, with Mark Winterbottom ultimately heading his team-mate Will Davison.

Fabian Coulthard and Shane van Gisbergen complete the top six.
