Texas confirms June IndyCar fixture

Texas IndyCarTexas Motor Speedway track president Eddie Gossage has confirmed that IndyCar will return in June next year, putting to rest speculation about the circuit’s future on the IndyCar schedule.

A question mark had hung over the 1.5 mile oval’s future with IndyCar due to the protracted negotiations between Gossage and series CEO Randy Bernard. Speaking at this year’s race, Bernard admitted to concerns over the event’s financial viability.

“I’ve read that [Texas] is the number two event in IndyCar for attendance,” Bernard said in June. “If they can make it the number two revenue-making event for the IndyCar Series, maybe [we'll sign a new deal]. We definitely want to come back if it is financially worthwhile.”

However Gossage confirmed on Tuesday that TMS will host IndyCar for a night race on June 8 next year, following the same 550km format as this year’s race.

NASCAR Sprint Cup’s schedule with the track also remains unchanged, with a night race pencilled in for April 11-13 and a twilight race on November 1-3.
