200-Proof LeMons Photo: Here’s Why You Want a Good Roll Cage

The 24 Hours of LeMons boasts far more than its share of paddock surrealism, dramatic repairs, and intense wheel-to-wheel battles at famous venues. Underneath it all, however, LeMons is real road racing, and scary stuff sometimes happens in road racing. When it does—as happened when the Team ONSET ’87 Chevy Cavalier wagon went into the wall at Infineon Raceway during the 2010 Sears Pointless race—we’re glad we’re such ball-busters about safety requirements. This was one of the worst wrecks we’ve ever seen in a LeMons race (in-car video available here, for those who would like to analyze what went wrong) and the Cavalier’s driver had to go to the hospital with a cracked vertebra, but the car’s cage and seat harness saved his life.
