Official: Nissan Leaf available nationwide in March

2012 Nissan Leaf availability nationwide graphic

The wait is over. After the initial launch in limited markets at the end of 2010 and a methodical rollout in 2011, the Nissan Leaf will finally be available to order all around the U.S. starting pretty much immediately. Nissan recently sent out an email that reads, in part:

Your time has arrived. Orders for the 2012 Nissan Leaf will begin in March, making the Nissan Leaf available nationwide. we are officially a 100% electric nation. look out for an e-mail around 3/1/12 detailing when you can order your Nissan Leaf.

We know AutoblogGreen readers from Kentucky and Michigan have gotten official emails from Nissan, and expect lots of others have as well. The last time we spoke to Nissan representatives about the Leaf ordering process, we were told around 2,000 people have been waiting to order their car since they don't live in a place where the EV is available yet.

There is a caveat, of course. Nissan points out that "Limited quantities will be available in launch markets through the Nissan Leaf online reservation system." But still, this is another step forward for the electrification of the automobile in America.

Video: Rally legends at Spa is music to our ears

The Legend Boucles de Spa is a historic rally held in the Ardennes Forest around Spa, Belgium, and it commemorates the actual Boucle de Spa rally races held for 37 years from 1953 to 1990. The drill is simple: lots of drivers plotting vintage machinery at various levels of anger through the trees.

Hundreds of cars run, some like the Ferrari 308 you'd never think to choose for rallying, while others like the various Lancia, Ford and ducktail Porsche racers are just good to see on the road again. There's over 11 minutes of high-def footage after the jump, and mercifully, the only soundtrack are the cries of exhausts that aren't anywhere near street legal. Enjoy.

Video: Jay Leno Camaro finally finds its way home

Jay Leno's Garage Twin Turbo Chevrolet Camaro

Back in 2009, General Motors whipped up a special-edition Chevrolet Camaro for Jay Leno. With a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine, unique aerodynamic and cooling work, Brembo brakes on all four corners and a Pedders coil-over suspension kit, the vehicle was designed to be a modern interpretation of the old Z28. Small aesthetic tweaks abound as well, from a revised front fascia to functional brake duct inlets on the rear quarters and unique exhaust outlets. GM even slathered the vehicle in the same paint as the original Camaro Concept. Very sexy.

Why do we bring up the 420 horsepower special edition now? Because Leno just took delivery of it. The latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage pours over every last detail of the car before hitting the road.

We like the idea of a better-handling, more track-focused Camaro, and while the Camaro ZL1 has scratched that itch for plenty of people, Leno's V6 bruiser is very cool. Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself.

Official: Lotus entering Evora GTE with Alex Job Racing in ALMS

Lotus Evora GTE

There seems to be no end in sight for the rapidly expanding Lotus Racing program. In the past couple of years, the team has branched into Formula One, Indy, GP2, GP3 and a number of GT racing series around the world. Thing is - while IndyCar runs primarily in the United States and F1 is coming here too - none of those endurance championships in which Lotus has been competing have been American. That is, until now.

Teaming up wit Alex Job Racing, Lotus is supporting a factory-backed entry win the GT class of the American Le Mans Series. Together, AJR and Lotus will field a 2012 Lotus Evora GTE running the same black-and-gold livery that has proliferated across the automaker's entire motorsport division.

AJR has a whopping 39 ALMS race wins and three GT titles to its credit, and will put IndyCar driver Townsend Bell and two-time ALMS Founders Cup winner Bill Sweedler behind the wheel for the full season that will kick off at Long Beach on April 14. Follow the jump for the full press release.

Vitaly Petrov sees no point in setting targets for himself and Caterham this year - and instead thinks the most important thing right now is simply in getting to understand the team better. Andreas Mikkelsen extended his lead over Juho Hanninen through the first four stages of day two of Rally Azores. There was little to choose between the two Skoda drivers until Hanninen had a quick spin near the end of SS5, losing 10 seconds. Official: Jaguar reskins the cat with new XK Artisan edition

Jaguar XK Artisan SE

Every car has its better and worse angles, but by and large we'd argue the Jaguar XK is one of the most beautiful cars on the road today. Almost artistic, we'd say, and Jaguar itself seems to agree with the release of the new Artisan special edition.

Launched (for the time being at least) in Jaguar's home market, the Artisan SE is available in either coupe or convertible and in base XK or supercharged XKR trim. It's distinguished by its polished 20-inch wheels and unique shades of black, white and silver, but what really sets it apart is its interior: Scraffito-style leather covers the seats, dash and doors, with a Poltrona Frau headliner, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, stainless steel pedals and unique sill plates.

The Artisan SE bumps the price of any XK specified by a good £12,000 ($19,000 based on current conversion rates), making it the new king of the hill for Jaguar's two-door range. Check it out in the press release after the jump and the high-res image gallery.

Video: Car crash occurs in background of live news report

Live news crash

See those two cars in the background, over the left shoulder of the talking head? They are in the process of crashing into one another, right there, live on the air. We're not sure what's more shocking, the crash or the reporter's reaction, which is to, well, stand there.

What's perhaps most interesting about this strange occurrence is that it points out the ridiculousness of many local TV news reports. Every day, reporters are sent out to stand in front of buildings to deliver live news reports about events that are not happening live.

Occasionally, as in this situation, some news actually does break out.

Click past the jump to see the full clip.

Brawn: Red Bull still the team to beat

Red Bull will still be the team to beat in 2012 - that is the view of Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn, whose team publicly unveiled its new W03 challenger to the world at the beginning of the first day's testing at Barcelona. Brawn insisted that it was still too early to say whether the new car will move Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg closer to the front of the field this season, but said that he expected Red Bull to be there whatever the order.

In the sea of economy cars, the 2012 Subaru Impreza swims among some fairly appetizing competition. Stewart not taking form for granted

Tony Stewart feels it is too early to know if he can carry his championship winning form in last year's NASCAR Sprint Cup into 2012. Spy Shots: Porsche 911 GT3 spotted testing before earning its wings

Now that the 991-series Porsche 911 has been unleashed on the world, it's time for the other twenty-ish variants of the company's halo car to be unveiled. We've seen the 911 Cabriolet, and our spies have caught the Turbo out testing. Now, the even hotter 911 GT3 has been caught in its early stages of development (read: before it gets it's big ol' wing out back).

Mum's the word on exactly what sort of insane power the GT3's flat-six will produce, though reports have suggested numbers as high as 450 horsepower. That said, there have been conflicting reports about just how that power will be sent to the wheels - recent news suggests that both a manual and dual-clutch setup are being tested, but that only one will make it to production. (There can only be one!) Porsche officials believe that the PDK will win, though we'll wait until we get final confirmation before cutting off our left feet. In any case, we'll wait for more details to roll out throughout the year.
