AM General is exploring the possibility of putting a kit vehicle in the hands of consumers. The manufacturer says it is still in the investigative stage of any development of what is widely reported to be named the C-series (for “civilian,” just as “CJ” denoted “Civilian Jeep” decades earlier), with a price tag of around $59,000 sans powertrain. According to Jeff Adams, executive director of communications and marketing for AM General, the company is considering the development of a Humvee kit comprised of certain military-spec HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) body and chassis components, but a final decision to move forward has not been made.
