Marco Cioci claimed pole position for the first Ferrari Challenge race at Silverstone.
With neither Alessandro Balzan nor Bjorn Grossman present at Silverstone, the door was left open for Cioci to triumph in a tight qualifying session in which the top five runners were covered by less than a second.
Cioci’s first flying lap saw him take third spot, but he improved to top the timesheets by recording a 2m08.944s, with Lorenzo Case two tenths of a second in arrears with a 2m09.170s.
This pushed defending champion Max Blancardi down to third, the Italian setting a time of 2m09.250s.
Stefano Gai was fourth, with Britain’s Alexander Martin taking a respectable fifth position.
Coppa Shell championship leader Alexey Basov meanwhile claimed pole position for his opening race.
