Caterham unveils 2012 challenger
The Caterham F1 team unveiled its 2012 challenger to the public on Wednesday, one day ahead of the what was originally planned by the squad. The team has revealed its car on the cover of the latest edition of F1 Racing magazine, subscribers of which received their copies today. Ogier’s co-driver ‘fit for Sweden’
Sebastien Ogier's co-driver Julien Ingrassia will be fit for Rally Sweden despite injuring his arm in a high-speed crash on the Monte Carlo Rally. The French duo were providing one of the shocks of the rally, as Ogier ran as high as fourth in his Volkswagen-run Super 2000 Skoda Fabia. But that impressive run came to an end with a big crash on Thursday, in which Ingrassia suffered the injuries as the car hit a tree on his side.

Kia recalls 145K Rondo, Optima models over airbag issues

Kia has announced that it is recalling 145,000 vehicles to address faulty airbags. A total of 95,569 Optima sedans built between 2006 and 2008 and 50,186 Rondo MPVs built between 2007 and 2008 are included in the recall.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles may have been built with a clock spring in the steering column that may fatigue and break over time. As a result, the vehicles may illuminate the airbag warning light on the dash and the airbag may not deploy in the event of an accident. The automaker says that while it has received some warranty claims for the problem, no crashes or injuries have been reported as a result of the default.
Kia plans to notify affected Optima and Rondo owners in March. Those vehicles that currently have their airbag lights illuminated will be fixed first. Click past the jump for the full recall notification.

Ezpeleta wants CRT bikes on the pace
MotoGP commercial chief Carmelo Ezpeleta is determined to ensure the gap between the works and CRT bikes in 2012 is not too large, and that the new class remains cost-effective. Nine of the 21 bikes in the 2012 MotoGP field will be running to the Claiming Rule Teams regulation, which allows for a greater element of production technology in what must remain primarily a prototype motorcycle, and Ezpeleta has opened admitted that he sees the lower-cost formula as the series' future. So far in testing, the CRT bikes have been clearly slower than the traditional MotoGP machines, but Ezpeleta is adamant that the championship will not become a two-tier contest, and that the works teams' pace and spending must be controlled.

Chandhok joins JRM for WEC in 2012
Karun Chandhok will compete in the World Endurance Championship in 2012 with the JRM Racing team, it has been announced. Eleven years ago, the NASCAR race team then known as Roush Racing made an announcement of a sponsor change on its flagship No. 6 car. Valvoline was leaving, and the Roush organization had struck a megabucks deal with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer to advertise a certain little blue pill on the hood of its vehicle beginning the following season. Jack Roush and Mark Martin revealed the new paint scheme in a splashy unveiling prior to the July race at Daytona International Speedway -- a full seven months before the car would take to the race track.

Trummer steps up to GP2 with Arden
Simon Trummer will remain with Arden International this year as he steps up from GP3 to GP2 with the team. Trummer, 22, finished 18th in GP3 last year under the team's MW Arden banner, a fourth placed finish at the Monza finale being the Swiss driver's best result. He made his GP2 debut with Arden at the non-championship Abu Dhabi Grand Prix support event last November, and will now tackle the full series with the British squad.

With the launch of the 2013 Fusion, Ford seems to have gotten the message that people are communicating in ways that are as sophisticated as the cars it's building. Ford doesn't expect you to leaf through a glossy brochure any more, or even sit at home on your computer researching your next automotive purchase.
All the pertinent details on the sharpest-looking sedan we've seen roll out of Dearborn in a long time are at fordfusionstory.com, a website optimized for tablet and smartphone viewing. The site went live on January 9, 2012, and provides overviews and deeper-dive information that's delivered through infographics, text, and video. With an easily shareable collection of elements designed for the way people communicate right now, Ford is showing that it takes selling the 2013 Fusion as seriously as the engineering and building part of the job.
The 2013 Fusion is bound to turn heads out in the wild. If that translates to people whipping out smartphones and coming across fordfusionstory.com, then the effort will have been a success. If you happen to call the East Coast home, there's a good chance you recently woke up to plenty of winter weather. Given that we're facing down a few long months of snow and ice ahead, we thought we'd take the time to explore one of the more interesting innovations in snow removal.
Behold the TowPlow: a steerable trailer that allows one truck to clear up to two and a half lanes of roadway in a single pass. The machinery effectively doubles the efficiency of a truck and driver, but it comes with a heady price tag. The TowPlow will set your local department of transportation back around $100,000 a pop.
The TowPlow can also be fitted to disperse sand, salt or liquid calcium chloride, which makes it a triple threat when it comes to keeping roadways free of the slippery stuff. The machine was pioneered in Missouri, but states like Pennsylvania have also taken to using the TowPlow when the worst winter weather hits. Plato: BTCC learned lessons from 2011
