Smith to compete in Qatar championship

Bradley Smith MotoGP rookie Bradley Smith will contest a round of the Qatar International Championship at Losail this weekend.

Smith steps up to MotoGP with Tech 3 Yamaha this season after two years in Moto2.

The Briton will take part in promotional events at Bahrain and Abu Dhabi’s Formula 1 venues during the week before racing a Yamaha R1 against Qatar national riders on Saturday.

“I’ve been pushing really hard to make this happen,” Smith said.

“Of course it’s great preparation for me before MotoGP testing gets underway in Sepang but also I’m certain there is some real racing talent in that part of the world.

“You only have to see how MotoGP has exploded in Malaysia to understand what the success of local riders can achieve.”

Smith joins countryman Cal Crutchlow at Tech 3, taking the seat vacated by Valentino Rossi’s Ducati replacement Andrea Dovizioso.
