Davidson secures Daytona 24 seat

Anthony Davidson Peugeot 2011 ILMCToyota driver Anthony Davidson will make his comeback from the back-breaking injuries he sustained in the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours in the Daytona 24 Hours next month.

The Briton, who fractured two vertebrae in the aerial crash at Mulsanne Corner at the wheel of the second Toyota TS030 HYBRID, will race for the new 8Star Motorsports squad.

Davidson will share the team’s Corvette-bodied Coyote-Chevrolet Daytona Prototype with fellow Peugeot refugees Stephane Sarrazin, Nicolas Minassian and Pedro Lamy, and team owner Enzo Potolicchio.

Davidson said: “It will be a great way to start the year. The Daytona 24 Hours is a race I’ve always wanted to do and the chance to do it with Stephane, who I’ll be teamed with at Toyota again next year, was too good to turn down.”

Former Starworks driver Potolicchio, who has set up his own team race in Grand-Am and the LMP2 division of the FIA World Endurance Championship, said: “Anthony is one of the best prototype drivers in the world and he brings even more experience and speed to the 8Star Motorsports new Corvette DP car.”

Davidson will get his first laps in the Coyote at the official Daytona test, which starts on January 4-6. It will be his first time back in a racing car since the Le Mans accident.

Potolicchio hinted that Davidson could contest more Grand-Am races with 8Star over the course of the season. He is expecting to share his Corvette with a number of his Daytona drivers over the season.
