V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup will make his Race of Champions debut this year.
Triple 8 Holden driver Whincup, 29, who is the favourite to land his fourth V8 crown this year, will compete in the individual event and the Nations’ Cup at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
His Team Australia partner in the Nations’ Cup will be five-time MotoGP world champion Mick Doohan, who will make his fifth RoC appearance.
“Having watched all the greatest racing drivers compete and have so much fun driving world class cars on my television from down under, I couldn’t be any more excited about participating for my first time at the Race Of Champions in Bangkok this December,” Whincup said.
“Being a ROC virgin I am not setting my expectations too high but I will have some fun and hope my big Aussie V8 experience helps me.”
Whincup and Doohan join a list of drivers that already includes Formula 1 world champions Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel and this year’s IndyCar title winner Ryan Hunter-Reay.
