Spengler won’t change approach

Bruno SpenglerBruno Spengler says it will be business as usual at this weekend’s Hockenheim DTM finale, despite the title being at stake for the BMW driver.

The 2012 season will be the fourth time in eight years in which Spengler will have arrived at the final round of the season in with a chance of becoming champion.

The Canadian, who joined BMW from Mercedes during the winter, is only three points behind his former team-mate Gary Paffett with 25 on offer from the final race.

Spengler believes that the key to his closing in from 40 points back after four events has been focusing on each event individually, rather than looking at the bigger picture.

It’s an attitude that he, his Schnitzer team and BMW as a whole intends to carry into this weekend.

“It’s fantastic to be just three points behind Gary and our goal is obviously to overturn his lead. However, this does not mean we will change our approach,” said the Canadian.

“We will go about our job in our usual, focused manner. I’m really looking forward to it.”

BMW motorsport director Jens Marquardt last week insisted that the season could be considered a huge success, even if Spengler does not win the title.

Spengler’s team boss Charly Lamm, however, is determined to see his driver’s hard work pay off.

“The past nine races have flown by,” Lamm said. It’s been possibly the most intense period we’ve ever experienced in the history of the team.

“This comeback season has been fantastic so far and it’s sensational to arrive at the final race with a chance of winning the title.

“We’ll be going all-out to end the season on a high at Hockenheim.”
