British Touring Car boss Alan Gow has confirmed there will be a separate prize for S2000 machinery in the championship next year.
The S2000 cars are gradually being replaced by NGTC machines, which were introduced last season, but several teams are interested in running them.
Gow has now confirmed they will get to battle for a separate prize, the name of which has yet to be finalised.
“We will do something for them,” Gow told AUTOSPORT. “The idea was always on the basis that there would be enough cars and now I’m confident there will be enough to justify a separate prize.”
Gow also suggested the class could be named after a key touring car figure.
“We will think of a good title,” he added.
The S2000 machines will still be eligible for points in the main championship in 2013, but will be left behind as the NGTC entries, which are also likely to be given extra turbo boost next season, are developed.
