Kostecki King of Trucks

The stars of the NASCAR iRacing Class C Series crossed the midway point of the 2012 Season One campaign following Rounds Five and Six at the Phoenix International Raceway and Bristol Motor Speedways, respectively. While the venues are very different from one another, one thing stayed the same over the two weeks. When all the dust settled, Brodie Kostecki stood above the rest as the weekly leader at both tracks! Kostecki led over 1,200 other sim racers in taking the weekly win at the Phoenix International Raceway during Round Five of the series. The 100-lap online race that put Kostecki over the top for the week came on March 4th during a 3964 Strength of Field (SoF) event in which Kostecki went to victory lane after leading 72 laps. Finishing [...]

Ricciardo happy with early progress

Daniel Ricciardo believes he has made a good start to his home grand prix weekend after the first track action of the season in Australia on Friday. The Toro Rosso driver was seventh in the first session and 21st in the afternoon. He put his afternoon result down to changeable weather conditions, but hinted that he took a lot of confidence from his performance in the first session of the season.

Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake is the one we want

Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake spy shots

With every new set of spy shots, we become increasingly more excited for the launch of the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake (or is that Break?). This tapered wagon version of the shapely CLS is certainly a looker, even in pre-production, camo-clad protype form, and after giving its shockingly quick sedan counterpart high marks for its driving dynamics, we can only assume that the complete Shooting Brake package will be really, really sweet.

Oh yeah, there's an AMG version, too.

Seen here for the first time, the CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake takes the same sleek long-roof shape of the CLS550 Shooting Brake prototypes we've seen, but adds all of the bulgy bits fitting of any high-performance Merc. All we can say is, it looks absolutely stunning, and we can't wait to see the finished product.

Power is expected to come from the same twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 found in the CLS63 sedan, sending 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via Mercedes' seven-cog Speedshift transmission. Like the sedan, we expect that Mercedes-Benz will offer an AMG Performance Pack, which boosts power to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft in the sedan. Holy moly.

Wipe the drool from your keyboards and click through our attached high-res image gallery to see the CLS63 Shooting Brake prototype for yourself.

Charlotte Show

The fifth round on the inRacingNews Challenge schedule unfolded on Charlotte Motor Speedway’s 12 turn, 2.25 mile road course. While sports car racing might be the last thing that you’d expect from a track renowned for its stock car events, the Pontiac Solstice and SpecRacer Fords of the iRNC have never failed to put on a good show here. Now, with the Mazda MX-5 Roadsters added to the mix, the three-class series was bound to put on even more of a show in its lone visit to the Tarheel State in 2012 Season 1. In Mazda, Daniel Schon put on the week’s best showing, scoring 161 points on the strength of a win from the pole in his lone start. Mogar DG Filho put on an even better show in [...]

Winterbottom wins qualifying race

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom took victory in the qualifying race that kicked off V8 Supercars' non-championship event on the Australian Grand Prix support bill in Melbourne. In an unusual rules twist for this race, the three cars running at the tail of the field on each lap from laps three to eight had to retire to leave a 10-car shoot-out over the final three laps of the event, which set the grid for race two later today.

Vergne not putting pressure on himself

Jean-Eric Vergne says he is not putting any pressure on himself ahead of his grand prix debut in Australia this weekend. The Frenchman, the 2010 British F3 champion, is making his race debut in Formula 1 machinery in Melbourne after having secured a deal with the Toro Rosso team. Vergne conceded he was still finding it hard to believe he is an F1 driver and says he will treat his debut as any other race

Auctions: Jay-Z and Kanye's wrecked Maybach fetches just $60,000 at auction [w/video]

Sorry, Phillips de Pury & Company, but you guys evidently had no business auctioning this car at a sale of contemporary art. Because no matter what the dynamic rap duo of Kanye West and Jay-Z did to it, this 2004 Maybach 57 is, first and foremost, a used car. Clearly the art community has voted with its wallets - and decided that the vehicle's value is about what you could make if you parted it out. Frankly, that's sad.

For those that don't remember, the Maybach was heavily modified for use in the music video for the song "Otis," the Grammy Award-winning hit from Kanye's 2011 album Watch The Throne. Despite its overt ugliness, the car certainly has provenance. (Did we mention that the song won a Grammy?) We only hope that whomever ponied up the paltry sum of $60,000 for the "Otis" Maybach is either a real music fan or someone who goes on to resell it at Barrett-Jackson or another car auction where they know how to move the celebrity metal.

Be sure to check out our gallery of the "Otis" Maybach, and click past the jump to watch the music video.

Juhring Wins Again

Week Six of2012 Season 1 saw the NASCAR iRacing.com Class B Series travel out west to “Sin City.” Drivers would attempt to tame the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in an effort to stake their claim to the series championship. During the week, 967 sim racers attempted at least one race, with 332 of them attempting one or more qualifying laps. Brandon Buie (Atlantic) arrived in Vegas looking to keep his points lead while Brad Mahar (New England) and Phil Juhring (New Jersey) were out to knock him off the top. The Strength of Field race for Week Six took place on Thursday night at 9:30pm EST, a timeslot that has become popular with ETV broadcasting the top split each week (http://www.etv-eplay.net/wordpress/?review=testing-2).  The many viewers watching this race saw Juhring dominate [...]

The Porsche Boxster really didn’t need a wholesale redesign.
