Buick announced its intentions to enter the small luxury crossover market at this year’s Detroit auto show in January when it revealed the Encore, the division’s latest attempt to lure younger buyers into its fold. Yes, the words younger buyers and Buick often don’t appear in the same sentence, but with the pricing the company just announced, at least it’s giving it a go. The crossover, which embodies numerous styling cues from the considerably larger Enclave, actually slots in sizewise between five-door hatches like the Honda Fit and Kia Soul and compact crossovers such as the Ford Escape and Volkswagen Tiguan. Encore will go on sale in the beginning of next year for $24,950 with a 138-hp 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder delivering power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is an option for an additional $1500.
For that price, the Encore features standard QuietTuning with Bose Active Noise Cancellation, 18-inch wheels, a six-speed automatic transmission, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch radio display with IntelliLink Connectivity. Below is a pricing breakdown of the other trim levels.
- $25,760 with Convenience Group: Adds dual zone climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote start, and fog lights
- $27,460 with Leather Group: Includes Convenience group. Adds leather trimmed upholstery, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, power passenger seat, and driver seat memory functions.
- $28,940 with Premium Group: Includes Convenience and Leather group. Adds front and rear park assist, forward collision alert with lane departure warning, seven-speaker Bose sound system with a subwoofer ($595 option for other trims), rain sensing windshield wipers, and cargo net.
Navigation is a standalone option on the Convenience, Leather, and Premium models for $795. Chrome 18-inch wheels are also available for these models for $995 as well as a sunroof for $800.
The Encore is priced slightly higher than competitors such as the larger, roomier Volkswagen Tiguan, which comes in at $23,820, and the Ford Escape, which starts at $23,295.
